You can follow same instructions if you are preparing this paysam with white riceflakes. Melt the jaggery in a separate pan with half a cup of water and sieve to remove impurities
I have used brown aval or brown riceflakes. If you go down that route, you may want to use the white aval instead of the brown one, just so it looks nice in the milk-sugar base and not like ugly brown flakes
In a small saucepan, heat jaggery along with water and boil till it melts. Add melted jaggery liquid. Aval payasam is simple to make but extremely creamy and flavourful
Here i have used thick red aval (riceflakes),jaggery and coconut milk. When the riceflakes in cooked add the jaggery syrup to it & crushed cardamon,cook till it blends well
If you dont have thick red riceflakes, dont give up just try with the usual thin poha. Its been a while i bought some thick red riceflakes for making upma with it, but none at home want to have upma hence a packet of red riceflakes was sitting in my pantry

Add to the above aval/riceflakes mixture. Aval Vilayichathu is ready to be served. After sieving, heat the solution again in medium flame stirring frequently till the thread consistency is achieved (you can test it by taking some between your thumb and middle finger)
Flattened rice is a dehusked rice which is flattened into flat light dry flakes. It has the richness of coconut, the sweetness of jaggery and aval / poha which is again beneficial for health and very less quantity of ghee
) Soon those days are going to come to an end. Aval is something that is always there at home and this snack is just mix and match, and ready to go in a jiffy
Heat a pan, add oil, crackle the mustard seeds, add the red chillies, cumin seeds, add the cleaned, dry poha ( beaten riceflakes, add turmeric powder and all the ingredients one by one, keep roasting till the poha becomes crisp and well coated with turmeric poswder
(This can be made and stored in an air tight jar in advance). Puli Aval is a tasty, nutty,tangy and spicy dish- Rather a meal in a dish which can be prepared with minimal effort and readily available ingredients
