Ingredients

  • 1 chopped onion –
  • 1 roughly chopped
  • 1 small piece
  • ghee
  • 2 tbsp for roasting
  • oil
  • 2 tsp urad dal – 1 tbsp (dehusked black gram)
  • seeds
  • 3 Tbsp red chilies – 2 hot smooth skinned ones, Kashmiri red chilies or byadige chilies (wrinkled skin) – 3
  • mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds or methi seeds – 1/8 tsp poppy seeds – 1/2 tsp cinnamon sticks – about 3, 1″ pieces
  • for grinding
  • 1/2 cup tamarind concentrate – 1 tsp for tempering:

  • 2 tsp mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp red chili – 1
  • curry leaves
  • 2 cups of water to the dal, 2 cups of water to the rice and cook in the pressure cooker
  • of water

  • 2 tbsp of ghee into this while it is cooking and stir it in
  • 2 tsp of oil in a separate small pan. add mustard seeds and allow them to pop. add red chili, curry leaves, switch off the heat. hold the pan up by its handle until the mustard seeds finish popping. transfer this to the bisibelebath
  • 2 tbsp of ghee, mix cook
