  • 2 green chilies (optional) ¼ tsp turmeric 2 tsp sambar powder small lemon sized tamarind ball few curry leaves 1 spring coriander leaves Instructions pressure cook dal to smooth with 1 ½ to 2 cups water. soak tamarind in warm water, squeeze, and filter the juice. add chopped drumstick and onions with a cup of water in a kadai and cook till drumsticks are half cooked. (approx 10 min) now add tamarind extract and cook further. also add turmeric, jaggery and salt. continue to cook till the drumsticks are fully done. (approx 5 min) now add curry leaves and get to a boil add smashed dal and mix well. bring it to a boil. add 2-3 tsp of sambar powder and get to a boil. (approx 5 min) now add coriander leaves and serve. if you plan to refrigerate, do it immediately once it is cool. serve with rice and ghee. 3.5.3208
