Karnataka Style Togari Kaalu Saaru/Togarikayi Masala Gravy

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Togari Kaalu/Tuvar/Green Pigeon Peas
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 2 Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 1 cup Grated Coconut
  • A fistful Coriander Leaves
  • A small piece Hing
  • As per taste Salt (around 11/2 tablespoon) (alter it as per salt type and your taste)
  • 2 Cinnamon sticks (1-inch length)
  • 2 Cardamom 2 Cloves 4 Red Chilies
  • 2 Byadagi Chilli
  • 2 tablespoons Coriander seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • A spring of Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 Onion (Finely chopped)
  • 2 tablespoons+2 tablespoons Oil

  • Method
  • 1 ) Wash the Togarikaalu/Green Pigeon Peas and pressure cook with enough water for 2 whistles. Make sure to cook in a way that they turn soft but not mashed up.
