Generally it is made with some popular Bengalifishes like Rohu or Rui,Bhetki or Barramundi,Katla but it can made with some other fishes which have less bone or are boneless
It is prepared of Rohu or Katlafish and made into a rich spicy gravy. FishKalia is a Bengali delicacy often made in occasions like marriage ceremony, rice-eating ceremony etc
Fishhead(Rohu/katla/Hilsa). Mustard Oil/white oil. As all know that bengalis do not throw any part of a fish, so fish head goes into many veges like bottle gourd or cabbage and even in rice
Marinate the fish with turmeric and salt,. Take a pan put it on the flame add mustard oil ,salt solution and pour into the oil and rectify , add pieces of potatoes and fry the potatoes keep it aside, in the same oil fry the fish pieces also and keep it aside
You can use Katla or any large fish instead of Rui. It is a traditional Bengalifish curry. My today’s recipe is Rui MacherKalia – a gravy based dish made with Rohu fish
All you need for this fish curry is Big size Rui or Ruhu or Katlafish. Whenever I go any Biye Bari or Marriage Reception I always love to have that special MacherKalia or Fish Curry
Mach is 'fish' in bengali and 'Jhal' is a type of preperation with a thick dryish gravy, mostly made with fish, shrimp or egg and cooked in a light sauce of ground chilli or mustard seasoned with mostly Panch Phoron(five spice mix) or Black cumin seed/nigella/kala jeera
Rui MacherKalia (Spicy Rohu Curry) a rich, moderately spicy, colorful delicious onion based gravy preparation of fresh water carp is suppose to be one of the regular staple diets of every Bengali household very commonly cooked by the Bengalis
