Blackeyedpeas or cow peas is also known as ‘Lobia’ or ‘Chawli’ in Hindi, Bobbarlu or Alasandalu in Telugu, ‘Karamani’ in Tamil, Chavli in Marathi and Alasande in Kannada
To make the masala, take the pan that you plan to cook the usal in (large enough). Pressure cook the soaked lobia / chawli / blackeyedpeas in enough water to cover + a little more
We can pressure cook Cow peas separately and add that to the cooked paste with powders and give a boil too but pressure cooking along with masala makes the curry more smooth and tasty
Heat the oil add mustard seeds,when it splutters, add urad dal, curry leaves, hing. Curry leaves - 1 Sprig. Soak the Karamani/BlackeyedPeas for 4 - 5 hours, and Pressure cook it, for 2 whistles or till it becomes soft. 1/8 tsp Curry leaves
