Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup drumsticks / muringakka - 2
  • turmeric powder -
  • powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder - 1 teaspoon green chilies - 2 (slit lengthwise)
  • 2 teaspoons tamarind - one small lemon sized ball
  • 2 tablespoon mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon dry red chili - 1 - 2
  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds / uluva - 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon asafodtida powder / hing - a generous pinch
  • 1/2 teaspoons of paste in
  • 1 cup of water
  • 3. Add the dal along with turmeric powder, green chili, in a pressure cooker and cook for 4 whistles.
  • 5. Now add drumstick pieces, shallots and saute for 5
  • 6. To this add red chili powder, sambar powder, and saute for 2 more seconds.
  • 7. Then add chopped tomato pieces and saute well till they turn mushy.

  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 6 minutes The consistency of sambar should neither be too thick or too thin
