Another easy and delicious sweet, Aval Ladoos, Poha ( RiceFlakes ) Ladoos. We can make these ladoos with regular white riceflakesand sugar but I have used red ricepohaand jaggery and also a little bit of roasted gram dal/dalia in the ladoos, so it's a little more healthier
Khatta dhokla as the name suggests is a slightly sour tasting steamedriceand dal cake spiced with green chillies, ginger and garlic may or may not be added
usually at home, on this day, apart from a special puja and going to the temple, the afternoon lunch is a traditional one with rice, sambar, curries along with vadai and payasam
Heat ghee in a pan (I use a saucepan and the same is used for making the kheer as well). So let's leave that aside for some other day and check how to make this yummy and easy to make kheer with poha or aval/riceflakes
Heat a pan, add oil, crackle the mustard seeds, add the red chillies, cumin seeds, add the cleaned, dry poha ( beaten riceflakes, add turmeric powder and all the ingredients one by one, keep roasting till the poha becomes crisp and well coated with turmeric poswder
I have tried it with brown ricepohaand it tastes equally yummy. Aval/Poha will soak up the water and let the mixture cook in low/medium flame till the ghee separates on the sides
Add water as required and get idli batter consistency ( little thicker than milkshake ). Thats it soft, spongy and instant poha Idli's are ready to serve
If you go down that route, you may want to use the white aval instead of the brown one, just so it looks nice in the milk-sugar base and not like ugly brown flakes
I have earlier shared PALAK DHOKLAS with Split Bengal Gram ( Channa Dal) andRICE DHOKLA recipes. Remove from the cake pan , garnish with coconut, finely chopped cilantro and using a knife cut them into cubes ( without fully cutting it )
