PachaManga Chammanthi, every Malayalis’ favorite with a bowl of kanji and pappadom. usually manga chammanthi is serverd with rice but it can be eaten as a quick snack by spreading between bread slices
Then lastly add curry leaves and pulse/grind just once. Pachamanga chammanthi is a sour and spicy chutney made with rawmangoes, coconut, shallots and chillies
In another pan add the mango pieces, green chillies, shallots and the rest of the turmeric powder and pour enough water to cover the mango pieces and bring to a boil
the first thing I did was preserve some of the mangoes (will post soon) and then made mango pickle, mango rice, mangocurry and this chammathi or chutney
Today's recipe is Prawns/Chemeencurry with (green) rawmango(Pacha maanga) added. -Add all the three powders and saute for a minute(till the raw smell goes)-Now add in the tomatoes and cook till it becomes soft and the oil separates
The instant rawmango pickle is ready and you can enjoy it with curd rice or some bhel puri etc. Pickles are always part of Indian dining and who can resist a mango pickle
This post is dedicated to the dry version -the sourness of the rawmango, the exotic grated coconut, spiced up with red chilly, the juices of shallots, the pungentness of curry leaves pounded all together in a special kind of grinding stone ,Ammikallu traditionally or in the small jar of a mixer-grinder into a thick waterless coarse mixture
It is known as pachamanga chemmeen muringakka curry (rawmangoprawn drumstick curry). Cook the prawns, chopped rawmango (pachamanga), turmeric powder (half tsp) in a clay pot or deep bottomed vessel along with half a cup of water
But right now, I am presenting rawmangocurry which suppose to happen during early summer. I got hold of few not-so- sour rawmangoes last month which generated real food excitements deep in my food spirit
Usually the Pachadi is prepared with rawMango but ripe mangoes can be used if desired. The rawMango I used was not sour, so I added little tamrind extract for sourness, can skip it according to the taste
