For today's idli I have used Kuthiraivali ( Barnyard Millet ) rava and sorakkai/bottle gourd. Grated Sorakkai/Lauki/Bottle Gourd - 2 cups. 1 cup Grated Sorakkai
I always try to have a collection of different types of chutneys because they can be used as a side for almost anything - idli, dosai, rice or as a spread for toast etc
When I first heard of this dosai from my friend, I thought, we would be just adding some grated bottle gourd/ sorakkai/lauki to regular idli/dosa batter, but then the taste was different and awesome
Bottle Gourd / Sorakkai / Lauki - 3 cups chopped. This is one kootu which we grew up on. The one thing she do is changes the vegetable that goes into this
(The different names for bottle gourd are sorekayi, Sorakkai, Dudhi, Dhoodhi, opo). The recipe for bottle gourd or dudhi/dhoodhi chutney is more or less the same as the chow chow chutney that I posted a few days ago
Lauki is one vegetable that I buy every week or at least once in 10 days. This is another very versatile vegetable, we can use for making curries, soup, sambar, dals, halwas, idlis, dosas and now these theplas and each of the above mentioned dishes taste very good with this vegetable
