Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Thuvar dal (pigeon peas)
  • 1/2 cup husked bengal gram (chana dal)
  • 6 dried red chillies
  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida
  • 4 cups grated beetroot
  • 1 onion
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp husked black gram dal (urad dal)
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 hour Drain and grind to a coarse batter, gradually adding
  • 1/3-1/2 cup water
